Of Lanterns And Lights

It’s a Diwali tradition in my family to go the week before the festival to buy diyas and lanterns for the house. We visit the brightly-lit Matunga street where hundreds of lanterns hang all lit up and pretty and wander about, taking our time to pick the ones we like.

We invariably end up buying the exact same lantern year after year (we might mix it up a bit and change the colour), but the best part about the annual tradition is to see (and get into) the holiday spirit.

Happy Diwali!

Vacation Days

Yes, this is an actual sign I saw in Las Vegas. I can’t be sure which casino it was in – Flamingo, maybe? – but there was an empty birdcage with a little sign letting inquisitive folks like me know that the bird was on vacation.

This seems like as apt a time as any to post this photo, because I’m off on vacation tonight too! I will be back in about 2 weeks, but until then, here’s wishing everyone a very Happy Diwali.
